By all accounts the last few weeks have been difficult for British actor Robert Pattinson, best known for playing everyone’s favourite sparkly vampire in the Twilight Saga movie adaptations. He saw his are they/aren’t they relationship with Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart confirmed to the world in the most dramatic of fashions: as the result of a public apology released by the actress when photographs of her cheating with her married director were splashed all across the media.
The media scrum that ensued was incredible, and sent Pattinson into hiding whilst he reportedly attempted to come to terms with his heart break in private. An actor with movies to promote can only hide for so long though, and Pattinson re-emerged into the public eye this week as the press tour for his latest film Cosmopolis swings into gear.
It can’t have been easy for Robert to come out and face the glare of the persistent paparazzi and concerned Twilight fans, but ever the consummate professional the young Brit faced the feeding frenzy with his trademark bumbling charm and good humour. It has to be said also that Robert seemed perhaps to have decided that the best revenge is looking well, either that or the heartbreak diet seriously agrees with him!
Whilst Robert has been out facing the public glare, nothing whatsoever has been seen or heard from his Kristen Stewart. It’s not known whether the couple are in contact or attempting to salvage what’s left of their romance, though it seems unlikely that they could come back from such a public scandal. Either way, it’s going to make for some seriously awkward scenes when Pattinson and Stewart have to undertake promotion for the final instalment of the Twilight movie series which is due to hit cinemas this autumn.
The Twilight fans may see them as the incarnation of fictional sweethearts Edward and Bella, but the truth is that this scandal has reminded people that Robert and Kristen are a real-life couple with real-life problems.
