Company History

Just For Fun began over 30 years ago in 1974, as a small shop in the six dials area of Southampton, in the south of England. It was the South's first fancy dress and party shop, and it was the beginning of something big. The company has grown considerably since those days, and there are now 3 larger branches in the Hampshire area, with an increasingly popular mail order department at our Hedge End despatch centre.

Just For Fun (UK) Ltd, has recently finished its most ambitious project yet, with a re-launch of our website bringing even more products, at low prices to even more customers worldwide. Here's our story from the beginning.

The beginning - 1974

Southampton's first fancy dress shop, based in the historic six-dials part of town, Just For Fun opens its doors, a family business with a vision of doing something different.

Moving on up - 1982

In 1982, Just For Fun moved to a more prestigious area of town, near the local Debenhams store, this is where our Queensway branch still remains, however it has increased in size since the days of the move. This move signaled an increase in the popularity of Just For Fun, and was to encourage our next step.

Second branch opens in Eastleigh - 1987

Just For Fun's success means that another branch is opened, this time in nearby town, Eastleigh.

Eastleigh moves - 1997

In 1997, Just For Fun packed its fancy dress bags in Eastleigh and moved to, well, round the corner! In an improved location in Leigh Road, Just For Fun Eastleigh opened its doors once again to offer our customers even more fancy dress and party products.

Double the fun - 1998

In May of 1998, Just For Fun Southampton doubled in size - it's first expansion in over 15 years, giving over half the shop to its increasingly popular, and ever expanding, Fancy Dress Hire service.  Just For Fun's popularity in Southampton continued to increase, and soon is was time to expand again.

Southampton expands again - 1999

In March 1999, Just For Fun Southampton expanded for the second time, this time in a Southerly direction, acquiring what used to be a curtain fabric store adjacent to Just For Fun. The expansion accommodated its growing product range, and Just For Fun was able to focus on increasing its range of party supplies.  The expansion also meant more room for fancy dress hire costumes, a department that also continued to grow.

Just For Fun.co.uk was also growing in popularity, for the first time regular Royal Mail collections began, and devoted space was given to Just For Fun's dedicated 'Despatch Room' - a packing desk and a storage area for flat boxes.

Just For Fun.co.uk 2000

After seeing in the new Millennium, Just For Fun's website and online service (known as Just For Fun.co.uk), expanded to accommodate international orders, in the first half of 2000.  We now deliver worldwide, supplying our fancy dress and party products and services to customers from all corners of the world.

Just For Fun also changed it's corporate image - the new "exclamation" logo was implemented throughout the company, replacing the existing and dated but much loved clown.  The new logo represents a business with a stunning range of products - that surprise, and excite!

Winchester Town Centre - 2001

Our third branch opens up in the historical town of Winchester, providing the town with top quality party supplies and fancy dress costumes. The stores opening was most successful, and we have many regular customers to date.

Just For Fun goes Limited - 2004

Owing to increasing turnover, and business success, the partnership Just For Fun, officially became a limited company, and is now formally known as Just For Fun (UK) Ltd.

Hedge End store and warehouse opens - 2004

Housing our new warehouse, and mail order despatch center, plus our biggest retail store ever, our newest branch in Hedge End, sets the stage for the future of Just For Fun. The new store was fitted with the latest technology to be able to serve our customers in the most efficient way possible.

Website re-launch - 2009

With record sales, and an increase in the fancy dress and party industry market, after 2 years of designing and tweaking, the Just For Fun website is re-launched, to offer our customers an even easier, more accessible and cheaper place to shop online, for the best in celebration, fancy dress, and party supplies.
